You usually don't need recognition from us to apply for higher education in Norway. On this page, you’ll find more information about admission to studies.
Recently edited : 31. October 2024The Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (Samordna opptak) processes applications for bachelor’s and other undergraduate programs in Norway that are build directly on secondary education. Applications for study places are sent to Samordna Opptak.
Some private institutions have their own admission service processes, and in these cases, applications should be sent directly to the institution. Applications for extension studies are also sent directly to the institution.
If the institution requests that you apply for recognition from us, you can suggest that they use the advisory service, which provides feedback on foreign education within 30 working days.
Applications for admission to master’s programs are sent directly to the institution where you wish to study. For information about various programs, deadlines, and admission requirements, you need to contact each institution individually.

Applications for admission to Ph.D. programs are sent directly to the institution where you wish to study. Institutions have their own application procedures for different doctoral programs. Many institutions offer further education and continuing education in a wide range of subject areas. The availability, subjects, and organization of instruction may vary. Deadlines and admission requirements also vary. For more detailed information, contact the institution you wish to study at.
Applications for admission to public vocational schools and some private vocational schools are processed by Samordna opptak. Samordna opptak has an overview of tertiary vocational programs you can apply for through them. For some private vocational schools, applications should be sent directly to the school you wish to attend. Check the school’s website or contact them for more information.
If you have completed all or part of your secondary education abroad and plan to apply for admission or credit transfer to secondary education in Norway, you have several options. Contact the counseling service at the school you wish to apply to, for advice on whether you can receive recognition for individual subjects (exemption from certain subjects). They can inform you about whether you can be exempted from entire academic years that you completed abroad and answer questions about program and subject choices.
