Do I need recognition?

If you have an education from abroad, you may need recognition of your education to be able to work or study in Norway.

For some professions, it is mandatory to get your foreign education or qualifications recognized. This is called professional recognition, and you must apply for authorization or recognition with the appropriate recognition authority. However, in many cases, it is not necessary to apply for recognition since most professions in Norway are not regulated by law.

When it comes to studying in Norway, in most cases, it will not be necessary to get your foreign education recognized. This is because educational institutions and the Centralized Admissions Service (Samordna opptak) can assess foreign education themselves.
