ASSAI – AI-Driven Assessment in Education
The Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) is a partner in the European project ASSAI: AI-Driven Assessment in Education: Shaping Policies for Responsible and Ethical Implementation.

The rapid integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) into education systems requires higher education (HE) institutions and policymakers to strengthen their organizational readiness and regulatory capacity.
ASSAI responds to this need by supporting HE policymakers, institutional leaders, and professionals in planning, regulating, and ethically governing the use of GenAI. The project places particular emphasis on assessment, recognizing that the evaluation of learning outcomes is classified as high-risk under the European AI regulatory framework and constitutes a central pillar of higher education's pedagogical mission and institutional sustainability.
By combining policy engagement, communication, and dissemination activities, ASSAI aims to strengthen the organizational capacity of higher education institutions to respond effectively to the opportunities and challenges posed by GenAI, ensuring that its deployment remains inclusive, human-centred, and ethically grounded while contributing to the resilience and sustainability of European education systems.
ASSAI is coordinated by the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR). For more information about the project, please visit the coordinator's website (UNIR).
