Reading test

E-learning

This is a 10 minute reading test which will give you an indication of how well you read.

Developed by: The Directorate for Higher Education and Skills

Are you a good reader? We use reading skills in many different contexts, e.g. at work, in connection with courses and in our studies, or when we are helping children with their homework.

This reading test will give you an idea of your reading level. You will read a series of short texts and choose the words which suit the context. The test shows how much you understand of the content within a given time frame. The result depends on your reading speed and the number of questions you answer correctly. The test finishes automatically after 10 minutes, or earlier if you complete it more quickly.

There is an example at the start of the test. You can listen to the instructions by clicking on the play button. There are no play options in the test itself.

The test has been developed on the basis of a reading test from the Centre for Reading Research at the University of Copenhagen.

Who is the Reading Test designed for?

The reading test is designed for anyone who wants to get an idea of their level of reading skills. We recommend that your Norwegian language skills are above B1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At this level, you can read texts in which the language tends to be based on common, everyday words and expressions.
